Felicitaciones Chef Gastón Acurio! Ambassador of Peruvian Cuisine

Dedication, passion, and love of his native Peru’s rich culinary tradition and indigenous ingredients are some of the hallmarks of chef Gastón Acurio’s work. At just 45 years old, this ambassador of Peruvian cuisine’s accomplishments were recognized with The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award – Latin America 2013, announced on July 31.

The award, conferred by the organizers of Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, commences the celebrations that will culminate at an awards ceremony on September 4 in Lima, Peru, where the list of the region’s top 50 restaurants will be revealed.

The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award is selected by The Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy, a group of over 250 industry experts from across the region. Acurio is recognized for his fundamental contributions to Peru’s culinary industry and national identity across Latin America.

Acurio Career Highlights

Acurio, initially trained and skilled in French cuisine, returned to Peru early in his career to focus on Peruvian food. Today, he continues to experiment with Peruvian ingredients, tapping Andean and Amazonian culinary traditions. Highlights include:

♦  A 20-year career, with Acurio’s organization, Acurio Group, now including 33 restaurants in 12 countries and growing

♦  Astrid y Gaston, Acurio’s flagship restaurant, debuts on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants List in 2011

♦  Astrid y Gaston awarded the Highest Climber Award, sponsored by Gaggenau, rising to No.14 on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants List in 2013

I will have the honor of presenting Acurio with The Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural awards ceremony for Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants, of which Diners Club® is proud to be the Official Credit Card Partner. Diners Club will also celebrate Acurio and Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants at a special cocktail reception in advance of the awards presentation.
