Creating Engagement and Fostering Innovation: Diners Club in Asia Pacific

Diners Club Team APAC at the Sydney Opera House

The positive energy generated by a group of individuals, coming together under a common goal can be powerful. Put this energy to action, and it becomes transformational. Tremendous potential and kinetic energy combined in one room as franchise partners, acquiring partners and colleagues from Diners Club and Discover came together for the Diners Club International® and Discover Asia Pacific (APAC) Partner Conference 2013 in beautiful Sydney, Australia from August 12 to 15.

Over the past couple of years, the APAC Partner Conference has developed into a unique conference experience with a “wow” factor to delight our franchise partners, and engage them in positive and collaborative discussions so that they can’t wait to come back for more.

We lived the conference theme of “creating engagement and fostering innovation,” not just with special Sydney experiences but more importantly through insightful updates on our global business, products and marketing. We also exchanged ideas in workshops covering fine dining and cinema, intra-regional promotions and new product technology.

The interaction and energy among the attendees was very positive and we look forward to following up on many ideas that were generated by the group. We were also honored to hear from our newest franchise partners, HDFC Bank from India and Industrial and Commercial Bank of China. The value these new partners will add to our network is tremendous and the next 12 months will be an exciting period of growth in these critical markets.

It was difficult to decide which event was most popular: The aboriginal dance performance by the Walangari Performance Troupe to welcome everyone to Sydney, the VIP tour of the Sydney Opera House followed by a fine dining experience at Guillaume at Bennelong, the wine tasting with one of Australia’s finest winemakers, Cape Mentelle, or the team racing competition across Sydney Harbour in America’s Cup yachts to conclude our meeting. There was something there for everyone and the beautiful Sydney weather made it all the more spectacular.

It was a long but entertaining week. The best takeaway for me personally was the positive energy of the group and the strong sense of partnership in the region. This is an exciting time for Asia and the team looks forward to an even better conference experience in 2014!
