This week, Diners Club International® is in Lima, Peru, for the inaugural Latin America’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards being announced this evening. Lima is hometown to famed chef and Diners Club® Lifetime Achievement Award winner Gastón Acurio.

Astrid & Gastón: Ranked #14 on this year’s World’s 50 Best Restaurants list, this restaurant in the bustling district of Miraflores is where Peruvian food meets haute cuisine. Winter is still in season in Peru, so check out “El Viaje” – the title of Astrid&Gastón’s Winter 2013 Tasting Menu.

La Mar specializes in Peruvian cebiche, a dish of raw fish marinated in citrus juices and typically accented with chili peppers. In 2010, local restaurant guide Summum rated it as Lima’s top cebicheria, and ranked it at #14 overall for its just-released 2013 guide.

Tanta, which comes from the word bread in Quechua, opened in 2003 in Lima. The restaurant serves affordable and classic Peruvian fare like cebiche, lomo saltado, ají de gallina and anticuchos. The restaurant just made its way to America, with Tanta Chicago opening its doors just this mid-August.

♦  Panchita, a Peruvian anticuchería (antichuchos are marinated grilled meat skewers) in Miraflores which opened in Summer 2009.

♦  Madam Tusan, a chifa or restaurant that specializes in the fusion of Chinese-Peruvian fusion cuisine.

♦  Los Bachiche, which mixes Italian and Peruvian Cuisine, inspired by decades of Italian immigrants who made Peru their home.

♦  Papachos, a hamburger joint with Peruvian ingredients and sauces which opened in September 2012.
