In a global company like Diners Club International®, our annual regional meetings offer a time for leadership from the region’s franchises, Diners Club and Discover Financial Services to reconnect, provide business updates, and discover new synergies for the future. Our recent Asia Pacific (APAC) Regional Conference, held June 2-5, 2014 in Tokyo, delivered on and exceeded expectations.

Attendees pointed to the rich and diverse content of the meeting, which was bolstered in no small way by the members of the Diners Club Japan team. Our host country partner not only made everyone feel extremely welcome, but were also generous in sharing their best practices and strategies for driving a truly successful Diners Club business.

The interactions between participants were strong and plentiful with delegates taking full advantage of the unrestricted access to the Diners Club and Discover senior leadership team and the business updates that were provided.

Our franchises in Japan, Australia, India, and China, as well as Global Collect, an agency acquirer partner, offered their latest updates. A conference highlight was an innovative workshop session from the Diners Club Japan team which showcased their expertise in social media, micro marketing events, corporate solutions, portfolio management and their unique Ginza program.

The conference also provided cultural activities aimed at relationship building. One evening featured “Traditional Tokyo”, including a sake tasting, a traditional Ikebana flower arrangement demonstration in the Diners Club Ginza Lounge, followed by a Japanese dinner and Geisha performance. The next evening, attendees experienced “Cool Tokyo” where they could take part in a Ninja, Sumo or baseball night. On the final day, attendees could play in the inaugural Diners Club International APAC Masters Golf Tournament at the Tokyo Golf Club (the oldest and most traditional club in Japan), a tour of the famous Asakusa district, or a Ginza shopping district experience.

With every year that passes, there is an increasing energy and sense of collaboration among the regional partners. This adds a real buzz to these events and reflects the strong sense of partnership that exists within the region. This is the core of the Diners Club family in Asia Pacific and there’s only more to come.
