The top female skiers in the world gathered from February 27 – March 2 in the ski resort of Bansko, Bulgaria to compete in one leg of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup for Alpine Skiing — a season-long annual competition that comprises race events held at resorts in Europe and North America. Twenty-five-year-old Austrian Anna Fenninger took home the top honors from Bulgaria.

As the official credit card sponsor of the event, Diners Club International was proud to be part of such an exciting and well-publicized competition, with 28 international TV stations on-hand. Despite the fact that the first two days of racing had to be canceled due to heavy fog in the Pirin Mountains, where Bansko is located, the skiers were resilient and able to complete the competition on March 1 and 2.

In a nod to the more than 550 airport lounges that are available to Diners Clubmembers worldwide, Diners Club also hosted a VIP airport lounge-themed hospitality tent (pictured below) that was open to the public and provided coffee, drinks and DCI-branded giveaway items.

On February 28, Diners Club had the privilege of hosting a charity dinner for the Dimitar Berbatov Foundation, which runs programs for the physical and educational development of children in Bulgaria. The event raised approximately 82,000 BGN ($46,700) for the foundation. In addition to Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev and skiing legends Alberto Tomba and Marc Girardelli, many of the World Cup skiers such as Fenninger, Lindsay Vonn and Tina Maze also attended the charity dinner and auction.

Diners Club sponsored a Ski World Cup event at Bansko in 2012, the last time races were held in Bulgaria, and was pleased to be a part of the world-class competition again.
