7 Top Foodie Spots in Chicago

From meatpacking mogul to Alinea (No. 9 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2015 list – and on this prestigious list for 8 years in a row), Chicago runs the gamut from fast-food mecca to world-class dining destination, with a bit of everything in between.

Next time you’re in the Windy City, check out these fabulous foodie spots that double as great venues for your next business meeting. Sit down with your associates in communal fashion to share a clay pot of “fat rice.” Discuss strategy over “social plates” of fried chicken and waffles. Gather for brunch over bourbon cocktails paired with Southern style grub. Whatever provisions you choose, Chicago makes it a foodie occasion to remember, and you can enjoy them with your Diners Club card!

1. Fat Rice

Recently listed on the Diners Club® World’s 50 Best Restaurants Academy—Global Selection, Fat Rice brings two worlds—Portuguese and Southeast Asian—together on a plate. Chef Abraham Conlon describes his cuisine as “Euro-Asia” comfort food. His namesake dish, arroz gordo—fat rice—consists of jasmine rice layered with various ingredients, including sofrito, Chinese sausage, salted duck, and Portuguese chicken thighs. Served in a steaming clay pot, arroz gordo is a celebratory dish of Macau intended for sharing.

2. Chocolate at The Pen

Need a good place to meet after dinner for more discussion? Chocolate at The Pen is Chicago’s premier chocolate bar, hosted by Chef Dimitri Fayard, from 7pm – 11pm on Fridays and Saturdays. This chocolate feast is located in the lobby at The Peninsula Chicago and features a selection of small chocolate desserts and petite chocolate delicacies, in addition to unlimited coffee, cappuccino, and espresso.

3. Sable Kitchen & Bar

Noted by Food & Wine Magazine as one of Chicago’s best new bars, Sable Kitchen & Bar is a New American gastro-lounge that serves “social plates” made for sharing and hand-crafted cocktails inspired by the Prohibition Era. Enjoy seasonal, farm-to-table cuisine here, such as such smoked trout and horseradish dip, tuna tartare tostadas and wood-fired flatbreads.

4. Nico Osteria

Located in the chic Gold Coast area inside the Thompson Hotel, Nico Osteria features rustic Italian cuisine. Chef Erling Wu-Bower prepares homemade pastas and seafood, and a robust selection of fresh meats, fish and antipasti rotates on a daily changing menu. An eclectic wine list rounds out this very Italian dining experience.

5. The Carriage House

The Carriage House

Your trip to Chicago is not complete without a decadent Sunday brunch! Expect plenty of laidback Southern charm at this low country-themed restaurant in Wicker Park. Enjoy scrumptious beignets or dig into uncomplicated fare like mushrooms, truffle and eggs. Brunch punch fits perfectly with the no-frills experience of Buck’s.

6. Ralph Lauren

Located next to the world’s largest Polo store, the Ralph Lauren Restaurant dishes up American classics like lobster bisque, Waldorf salad, ribeye and veal chops. And don’t forget the Polo club sandwich, a mouth-watering treat of chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato, mayo and sliced bread. With an old- school wood and leather interior, the restaurant celebrates the eponymous designer’s vision for modern city-club sophistication.

7. Miss Ricky’s

American comfort-food classics are served morning until late at the trendy diner, Miss Ricky’s, located inside the Virgin Hotel.
